A Montreal Storage Company Helps Make Space
Before tackling any big projects around the house, you always want to start with a clean workspace. This applies to cooking, wallpapering, sewing, even homework. So what about moving? How do you start with a clean workspace when the workspace is your entire house? That definitely complicates things a bit. Thankfully, we received these great tips from an overseas moving company operating on a tight ship.
- When in doubt, throw it out. This quotation should be your motto when moving. Aside from old photos and important documents, there is very little that you truly cannot live without. People tend to accumulate possessions faster than they can store them, or really even register that they are in the house. As a result, we usually end up with a ton of stuff that we did not even realize we had. On moving day, you do not want to be moving the duplicate coffee makers and extra holiday decorations that you purchase don sale and did not remember you had them.
- Have an estate sale. Local movers recommend opening your home to strangers. Well, at least this one time, and of course, after you have packed up everything you want to take with you during the move. Estate sales, as opposed to yard sales, usually bring a higher price for your unwanted belongings. Plus, if you permit potential buyers to walk through your home, you will not have to cart everything outside and set up tables and add prices to every item. Typically, estate sales are set up more like a silent auction, where individuals are able to name the price they are willing to pay and then begin negotiating a mutually agreeable price.
- Donate unwanted items. Any items that remain unsold after your estate sale can be dropped off to local charities. Many Montreal movers offer to take one truck load of donations to the charity of your choice at the time of your move. Making these donations will lighten your load and also potentially qualify you for a tax incentive. If you have friends in the community who may be able to make good use of your discarded items, offer them first pick before proceeding to the charity drop off.
The Montreal moving company that you choose to transport your belongings may have some additional tips to reduce your clutter. The most important success factor in any of the tips they may provide is your willingness to part with some personal artifacts. None of the advice you receive will be of any use, unless you are willing to take it.
And, this requires that you place value on your future more than your past. If you know that you will never be able to wear that particular size again, there is really no reason to hold on to those bags of clothing you have been storing in the basement “just in case.”
